Chinese Verte-Imari bowl with peonies

The decoration of this beautiful bowl combines the Imari and Famille Verte styles in one palette. This combination of styles has resulted in a very attractive piece. Depicted is a large flowering peony branch covering about half of the exterior of the bowl. This bowl dates from the beginning of the reign of the Chinese emperor Qianlong (1736-1795), around 1740. The diameter of this bowl is 6 inches (about 15.5 cm) and the height is about 2.75 inches (almost 7 cm).

Excellent, with wear to the enameled highlights as well as some fritting to the rim and a small (0.2-inch) chip to the footring.

Qianlong, circa 1740.
