Chinese Imari plate with flower scroll

This beautiful Chinese export porcelain plate is decorated with a central flower scroll. Especially the gold chrysanthemum flower in the center is quite pretty. The central decoration is surrounded along the rounded well by four flower cartouches reserved on a trellis-diaper pattern band. The rim is decorated with a fine bamboo and grape border. The entire decoration is executed in underglaze blue and overglaze red and gold, the typical Imari style.  In addition, the plate has an attractive brown rim. This plate is an excellent example of Chinese export porcelain from the first half of the 18th century. It dates from the beginning of the reign of the Chinese emperor Qianlong (1736-1795), around 1740. The diameter of this plate is 8.75 inches (just over 22 cm).

Virtually perfect with two minuscule frits.

Qianlong, circa 1740.
