Chinese Famille Verte plate

Description
This bowl shaped plate excellently displays the use of green enamels on Chinese export porcelain. This style of decoration is usually referred to as Famille Verte. The earliest examples of Famille Verte date from the reign of the Chinese emperor Kangxi (1662-1722). This plate is an excellent example of such an early piece dating from around 1700. The plate is decorated with four circular flower groups. The rim is decorated with four flower cartouches reserved on an ornamental band. The reverse is decorated with three flower branches. The diameter of this plate is 8.25 inches (about 21 cm).

Condition
Good with heavy chipping to the rim (largest 0.3-inch) and wear to the highlights. Such heavy chipping is not uncommon for the wares from the beginning of the reign of Kangxi, when problems existed in the manufacturing process.

Age
Kangxi, circa 1700.
