Chinese Famille Rose milk jug with flowers

Description
This attractive milk jug is decorated in the Famille Rose palette with rose, green, gold, red and black. The decoration consists of three large floral sprays. The abundant use of attractive green enamels, is reminiscent of the Famille Verte wares from the reign of the Chinese emperor Kangxi (1662-1722). However, this milk jug dates from a slightly later period, the beginning of the reign of Qianlong (1736-1795), around 1740. Although the unglazed rim suggests that this little jug once had a matching cover, the cover is no longer present. This is not unusual for such pieces and in this case certainly does not detract from the appearance. The height of the milk jug is about 3.5 inches (just over 9 cm).

Condition
Excellent, with a small chip to the spout and a 0.25-inch firing crack to the rim. In addition, there is some wear to the enameled highlights.

Age
Qianlong, circa 1740.

Price $295
