Chinese Imari plate with lanterns and rabbit

The decoration of this attractive Chinese export porcelain plate is executed in underglaze blue and overglaze red and gold, the typical Imari palette. The decoration consists of a central medallion with a rabbit sitting under a tree in a Chinese garden. This central medallion is surrounded by three different Chinese lanterns and elaborate flower garlands. The overall composition of the decoration is absolutely superb. The reverse is decorated with two flower branches. This plate is an excellent example of Chinese Imari produced during the reign of the emperor Kangxi (1662-1722). Diameter 8.5 inches (22 cm).

Excellent with some fritting to the rim and minimal rubbing to the enameled highlights.

Kangxi, circa 1720.
