Chinese Imari plate with flower vase and precious items

This beautiful plate is a perfect example of Chinese Imari produced during the reign of the Chinese emperor Kangxi (1662-1722). It dates from around 1720. The central decoration consists of a flower vase surrounded by precious and scholarly items. The rim is decorated in iron red and gilt and washed blue, with two insets with finely penciled landscapes and four cartouches with additional precious items. The quality of the decoration is exceptional. The reverse is decorated with two simple branches and the rim has an attractive brown glaze. This plate represents the best Chinese Imari produced during the 1st half of the 18th century. The diameter is almost 9 inches (almost 23 cm).

Excellent with three frits to the rim and some rubbing to the enameled highlights.

Kangxi, ca. 1720.
