Chinese Famille Rose deep plate with European patterns
Description
This Chinese export porcelain deep plate has a decoration which is directly derived
from European examples. During the 18th century famous European factories, such
as Lowestoft and Meissen, produced wares with attractively arranged flowers. These
pieces attracted a lot of interest, and the European East India companies soon started
commissioning similar pieces in China. This plate is an excellent example of this
practice. The center of this plate is decorated with a finely penciled flower arrangement.
The rim is decorated with a band with floral cartouches. The diameter of this plate
is 9 inches (22.5 cm).
Condition
Excellent, with three tiny frits to the rim.
Age
Qianlong, circa 1780.
