Two Batavia ware saucers with landscapes


Description
This attractive pair of saucers is decorated in underglaze blue with a Transitional style landscape with a fisherman in the foreground and a pagoda in the background. The rim has an attractive ornamental border. The reverse of the saucers is covered with a glossy brown glaze. The saucers are marked with a seal mark in Zhuanshu script within two concentric circles. This set dates from the reign of the Chinese emperor Kangxi (1662-1722), around 1700. The diameter of the saucer is almost 4 inches (10 cm).

Condition
Excellent, with some minor fritting to the rim as well as some crackling in the glaze.
